April 14, 2005 FDU: Schundler Still the GOP Front-Runner
(MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ) -- Schundler for Governor communications director Bill Pascoe, responding to the release of a new Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll, today issued the following statement:
"The FDU Public Mind poll released today confirms what Bret Schundler has been saying for months: far and way, the number one issue in New Jersey is the demand for property tax reform. No other issue or message comes close. By a margin of 51 to 13 percent, controlling taxes and spending trumps the ethics issue. Supporters of New Jersey's Property Tax Revolution are encouraged by these numbers, because they validate Bret's agenda.
"We are further gratified to see that in the Republican primary campaign, Bret maintains a 65/13 favorable/unfavorable ratio -- that's a 5:1 positive/negative with a net positive-52. Meanwhile, our nearest rival trails with a 55/14 favorable/unfavorable, a 4:1 positive/negative, and a net positive-41 -- despite spending millions of dollars on broadcast television advertising.
"Perhaps more importantly, among all voters, Bret is the front-running Republican, with a 43/27 favorable/unfavorable rating -- setting up an extremely competitive contest in the fall against Jon Corzine, whose own numbers (released in yesterday's FDU poll) were a remarkably similar 45/32 favorable/unfavorable rating.
"New Jersey's Property Tax Revolution is gaining strength. This FDU poll proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bret Schundler, the leader of the Property Tax Revolution, is well positioned to succeed in the fall against Jon Corzine, a man who has yet to even acknowledge, let alone address, the extraordinarily high property tax burden on New Jersey homeowners."
