Jon Corzine: The New Spending Champ

(MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ) -- Schundler for Governor communications director Bill Pascoe -- responding to the release of a new study by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation study showing Jon Corzine to be the biggest-spending member of the United States Senate -- today issued the following statement:

"The release of the new study by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation -- available at http://www.ntu.org/main/press_papers.php?PressID=718&org_name=NTUF -- makes one thing perfectly clear: If New Jersey voters want to permanently and dramatically reduce their property taxes, they"d better not vote for Jon Corzine for Governor. Why? Because Jon Corzine's spending agenda in the United States Senate makes him the Senate's NUMBER ONE SPENDER -- that's right, he's a bigger spender than Hillary Clinton, a bigger spender than Ted Kennedy, even a bigger spender than the Senate's all-time King of Pork, Robert Byrd.

"If Jon Corzine got everything he wanted in the U.S. Senate, the price tag would be an astronomical $441 billion. That's 441 followed by NINE zeros. That's 441 thousand thousand thousand. Dollars. Or, to put it in terms Democrat Party UberBoss/Corzine Crony George Norcross can understand, REAL money.

"To put this in perspective, the AVERAGE Senate Democrat wanted to spend an additional $157 billion. So Jon Corzine is almost THREE TIMES as big a spender as even the average Democrat!

"You cannot cut taxes without first getting control of spending. It should be no surprise, then, given his big-spending ways, that Jon Corzine gave an official campaign announcement speech that went for 64 paragraphs and 1,899 words without ever ONCE letting the phrase "property taxes" pass his lips. But then, I guess it's not fair to expect a man who doesn"t own a residence in New Jersey -- a man who pays no property taxes in New Jersey -- to understand the plight of New Jersey's long-suffering taxpayers.

"New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the country, and some of the highest income taxes, too. That's why Bret Schundler is leading a Property Tax Revolution to constitutionally limit the pace at which government spending can grow -- and to force the state to return a fair share of tax revenues to school districts and municipalities, so we can improve local services and lower property tax rates year after year after year -- until property taxes in New Jersey are phased out altogether.

"New Jerseyans who want to cut their property taxes should go to our campaign website at www.bret2005.com and sign our Notice to Politicians, to let their political leaders know they support our constitutional amendments, and to demand their political leaders" support for them, too. If we could pass the Permanent Property Tax Reduction amendments this year -- while the legislature is in session, so they can make it onto the ballot this fall -- we"d all be much better off."
