Schundler Statement on Freedom of Speech and Ethnic Stereotyping

(MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ) -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Bret Schundler, responding to recent statements by NJ 101.5 radio hosts Craig Carton and Ray Rossi, today issued the following statement:

"The very first amendment to our Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of speech -- including the expression of thoughts that are offensive.

"That said, last week, Craig Carton and Ray Rossi, hosts of "The Jersey Guyz" radio show on NJ 101.5, made extremely offensive remarks concerning Asian-Americans during their radio show. Their comments were offensive -- not just to Asian-Americans, but to all of us who have been fighting to build a society where men and women, in Ronald Reagan's words, "can be free to become whatever God intended them to become."

"I look forward to next week's GOP gubernatorial debate on NJ 101.5, in hopes that we can have a fuller discussion of this and other matters impacting the lives of NJ 101.5's listeners, and I respectfully ask my colleagues, the other six GOP gubernatorial candidates, to join me."
