New Poll: Schundler Better-Positioned than Forrester Against Corzine

(MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ) -- Schundler for Governor communications director Bill Pascoe -- responding to the release of a new poll by National Research showing Bret Schundler better-positioned to take on Jon Corzine in the fall campaign than Doug Forrester -- today issued the following statement:

"The release of a new poll by National Research shows Bret Schundler better-positioned than Doug Forrester to take on Jon Corzine in the fall campaign. That's good news for New Jersey property tax payers, who are already paying the highest property taxes in the nation, and who continue to sign Bret's Notice to Politicians demanding permanent and dramatic property tax reductions.

"The National Research survey shows Jon Corzine leading Doug Forrester by a margin of 41-36 percent, and leading Bret by a margin of 42-31 percent. The good news for New Jersey taxpayers is that the survey shows Jon Corzine well below the critical 50-percent threshold in general election head-to-head match-ups with the leading GOP contenders. Clearly, Jon Corzine is vulnerable in the general election.

"But the better news is that the survey shows Bret better-positioned than Doug Forrester to take on Mr. Corzine in the fall campaign. Consider: Doug Forrester has already spent more than $6 million on his campaign so far, while Jon Corzine has spent $1.3 million. That's right -- even though the Forrester campaign has outspent the Corzine campaign by a factor of better than four-to-one, Mr. Forrester STILL trails Mr. Corzine.

"Clearly, Mr. Forrester's campaign isn"t spending his money wisely. Despite GOP-record spending levels, Mr. Forrester can"t break out of a tie with Bret, and he still trails Mr. Corzine.

"Bret Schundler, by contrast, IS spending his money wisely -- he's tied with a candidate who's already outspending him by four- or five-to-one. Clearly, BRET is the Republican candidate who knows how to run the kind of campaign the Republican will need to run in the fall campaign, against a candidate with an unlimited checkbook.

"New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the country, and some of the highest income taxes, too. That's why Bret Schundler is leading a Property Tax Revolution to constitutionally limit the pace at which government spending can grow -- and to force the state to return a fair share of tax revenues to school districts and municipalities, so we can improve local services and lower property tax rates year after year after year -- until property taxes in New Jersey are phased out altogether.

"New Jerseyans who want to cut their property taxes should go to our campaign website at www.bret2005.com and sign our Notice to Politicians, to let their political leaders know they support our constitutional amendments, and to demand their political leaders" support for them, too. If we could pass the Permanent Property Tax Reduction Amendments this year -- while the legislature is in session, so they can make it onto the ballot this fall -- we"d all be much better off."
