Corzine's Own "Strategy of Inevitability" Not Going So Smoothly

(MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ) -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Bret Schundler -- responding to Jon Corzine's comments this morning on MSNBC's Don Imus Show -- today issued the following statement:

"To what, exactly, does Mr. Corzine refer when he says, "As you know, not everything has gone smoothly in New Jersey"?

"Is Mr. Corzine referring to his crony Jim McGreevey's embarrassing resignation, one step ahead of the law?

"Is he referring to his crony George Norcross' secretly-recorded and embarrassingly frank conversations about the power of Democrat party bosses in New Jersey?

"Is he referring to the billions of dollars wasted by the School Construction Corporation? Or to the string of former McGreevey administration fundraisers who are now on their way to jail for corruption, courtesy of U.S. Attorney Chris Christie? Or to his former business partner Charlie Kushner being sent to federal prison?

"Or, could it be that Mr. Corzine is referring to the fact that he doesn't even own a home in New Jersey, does not pay property taxes in New Jersey, and is therefore clueless when it comes to understanding the burdens of New Jersey property taxpayers?

"Mr. Corzine made one statement this morning that was perfectly clear. He said, "I think we"ll have a very competitive race by the time we get to November."

"Mr. Corzine's declining appeal -- Quinnipiac's most recent poll shows that only 34 percent of voters think favorably of him -- is probably the only issue on which we agree. WE think it's going to be a close race, too."
