June 2, 2005 Checking in to Corzine's "Last Resort"
(MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ) -- Schundler for Governor communications director Bill Pascoe -- responding to Jon Corzine's failure yesterday to rule out tax increases, but instead to promise that "I"m going to do everything I can to make that a last resort" -- today issued the following statement:
"New Jersey taxpayers should beware: when Jon Corzine promises to make tax increases a "last resort," you can bet that's one resort he"ll be checking in to.
"Jon Corzine has voted for higher taxes 132 times in his five years in the U.S. Senate. That's 132 votes for higher taxes in roughly 270 weeks or so. Here's an easy way to remember it: on average, every time you open your biweekly paycheck, Jon Corzine has just voted for you to pay higher taxes.
"The National Taxpayers Union rated Jon Corzine the BIGGEST SPENDER IN THE ENTIRE U.S. SENATE.
"New Jersey's overburdened taxpayers have a much better option: if they don"t want to join Jon Corzine in checking in to his "House of Taxes," they should vote for Bret Schundler in next Tuesday's Republican gubernatorial primary."
